At first all he can feel is relief, even with his uncle heckling his engagement as another round of champagne comes out. The first one was for him and his birthday, obviously. He opens his mouth to protest, but then Pepper's lips are on his and he lets out a tiny noise of surprise, thankfully taken into the kiss. Though he leans into her eagerly, he makes sure it doesn't make it even to PG-13, knowing Pepper is anything but exhibitionistic.
He doesn't even look for Steve in the crowd, knowing he'll be gone as they pull away. They'll have to go hunt him down after this so he can make fun of Tony some more. As their kiss winds down, he smiles hazily and bumps his nose against hers, admiration for Pepper Potts taking his features.
"With friends like these..." he says over the speaker, shaking his head fondly at the spot Cap's already vacated. A spotlight seeks him out while Tony forges their exit off the stage, reaching his hand out for hers. At Last by Etta James comes on, an assault to the senses after such a long stretch of quiet. Tony still has the microphone in his other hand as he thanks his adoring public. Their public. He knows they wouldn't love him nearly as much without Pepper's add-on.
"Thank you guys for coming to celebrate me... and Pepper. But I'm starting to embarrass her so -- bye." Tony tosses it back onto the stage as he helps her off it, swinging her immediately onto the dance floor that's being lighted and cleared for them as they walk onto it.
