He doesn't know about these things, Pepper!!! But he catches on, nodding like he thinks he's supposed to. "Then I won't," he pledges, studying her face for clues before speaking again. "You know I've got your back, right?" No matter what, he always would. He's not really sure all of what that means in this context, but he has no choice but to deliver. This is Pepper. It hasn't fully sunk in that there's another life in the balance here, but he's still mostly in shock.
